There are few motifs in Mexican art that are as charged with meaning as the snake. Its association with life and death, earth and water, the world and the underworld, has inspired fear, curiosity and the imagination. This exploration reveals some of the metamorphoses of a mythic creature in an aesthetic linked to the terrifying and the sublime.
